Toyota has been synonymous with optimum quality and performance over the years, continuing to retain its qualities, the brand recently launched its all new Land Cruiser Prado and also teased an all new upcoming Boxy SUV. The brand has now filed a patent that have surfaced online and have given us a first peek at the new design of the upcoming SUV. The new upcoming SUV is being touted as the Mini Fortuner for the masses, but upon its debut the car would most likely be called the Toyota FJ Cruiser.
FJ Cruiser Moniker
The FJ has been a legendary moniker for Toyota, a slew of Land Cruiser generations held the FJ Suffix. Last time a SUV that took on the FJ cruiser moniker was a retro styled cruiser that was sold from 2006 to 2022. The FJ cruiser is being touted as the smallest rugged SUV from Toyota; this would be a larger evolution of the compact cruiser EV Concept that was shown back in 2021. The Smaller FJ Cruiser would be based on the IMV ladder frame chassis that also underpins the Toyota Hilux Champ that is currently sold in Thailand.
While the patent for the development of the car was filed last year, the images have surfaced online recently. Apart from the Boxy silhouette the car has been equipped with a 5 door Layout. The patent images have revealed the car to have pronounced rear fenders, thick C pillars and an upright stance.
The dimensions of the car would be similar to that of the Toyota Fortuner as well as the Hilux Champ. The Car would possibly be powered by the same 2.0 liter Petrol seen on the Hilux Champ, and a 2.7 litre Petrol and beyond that a 2.8 liter diesel that currently serves the duty on the Fortuner. Some of the variants would get a basic 4WD setup similar to the Fortuner and the Hilux. Only the patent images have appeared online; Toyota has not revealed any details about whether the vehicle would be launched in South Asia or not.
