Maruti Suzuki is all set to freshen up its vehicle line up this year, a recent update has revealed that the brand has been planning to launch an all new 5 seater SUV. The New SUV would be placed above the Vitara Brezza. The New SUV would help Suzuki close in on the gap that exists between the Brezza and the grand Vitara.
While Suzuki has not revealed any details about the vehicle, a slew of recent test mule sightings have been able to give us an idea of the overall dynamics of the vehicle. The new SUV would be sold through Arena Dealerships, here’s what we know so far.
Maruti’s Long awaited Reply To The Other Vehicles
The Upcoming compact SUV from Maruti Suzuki would compete against the likes of Hyundai Creta , Kia Seltos and Honda Elevate. The car would be underpinned by Suzuki’s Global C platform, the same architecture on which the current grand Vitara is based. The new SUV would have a longer wheelbase to make it competitive while still being equipped with the latest features.
Rather than giving the Brezza a much needed style refresh Suzuki has sought out to bring ina completely new offering that would take on the competitors in the other segment. The new offering would help Suzuki reach customers who seek a more premium SUV.
Powertrain And Features
Maruti would retain the use of its 1.5 litre K-15C Na petrol engine with mild Hybrid tech. The engine has been successful in several chassis and the transmission options would include a 5 Speed manual gearbox and 6 speed torque converter automatic. Suzuki would probably skip the Strong Hybrid tech, or just like the Vitara Brezza could being in a string Hybrid powertrain to be available in specific variants.
Since it would have to compete with offerings that are known for their feature rich aesthetic, its bound to be equipped with new additions such as soft touch interiors, dual tone upholstery helping it achieve a more up market feel. Feature wise the SUV would be equipped with a 10.25 inch touchscreen infotainment screen with wireless Apple car play and Android Auto, With a digital instrument cluster as well as an automatic climate control. The car would have to offer other accessibilities such as ventilated car seats to ensure that the vehicle is at par with the other competitors in the segment.
Since the expectations from a compact SUV have been raised by the presence of offerings from Kia, Honda and others the car would have to offer 6 airbags as standard and advanced safety features such as ADAS, 360 Degree cameras, and crash avoidance systems.
While Suzuki has not revealed any details the car would possibly launch around the festive season and would probably be launched under the new moniker of Escudo.
