HDFC Bank will implement revised charges across various credit card categories starting July 1. The changes include new fees on selected high-value transactions and a revision in the reward point policy across the wallet loading, online gaming and insurance. Here are the key changes that will affect you if you’re an HDFC credit card holder. Cardholders should review these updates carefully to understand how their monthly spending patterns may be impacted.
Online Skill-Based Gaming
For selected gaming platforms, you will be charged a 1% fee on the total monthly spend if you spend more than ₹10,000 per month. The platforms include Dream11, Rummy Culture, Junglee Games, MPL, and similar websites. This payment will be restricted to Rs 4,999 per month. Additionally, no Reward Points will be acknowledged for any transactions involving online skill-based gaming.
Wallet Loading Transactions
You should be alert while using third-party digital wallets like PayTM, Mobikwik, Freecharge, or Ola Money. If you use your HDFC Bank credit card to load more than Rs 10,000 into these third-party digital wallets in a single month, a 1% fee will be applied to the total amount loaded into the wallet. This fee shall not exceed Rs 4,999 per month.
Utility Bill Payments
Utility Bill payments will attract charges after a threshold. Be careful while paying your utility bills using your HDFC credit card. If your monthly card spend crosses Rs 50,000 (for personal cards) or Rs 75,000 (for business cards), the card will incur a 1 per cent fee on all your utility transactions. This charge too will be capped at Rs 4,999.
Importantly, insurance premium payments will not fall under this fee structure.
Charges Upper Cap Revision
It has to be noted that the maximum charge per transaction for rent, fuel, and education categories has been capped at Rs 4,999. The existing 1% transaction fee will continue to apply on all rent payments. For fuel transactions, if your transaction amount exceeds Rs 15,000 or Rs 30,000, depending on the specific transaction threshold, the charge will apply. During education payments, no charges will be levied if the payments are made directly through college or school websites or their point-of-sale (POS) machines.
However, 1% fee will be applicable when the payments are made through third-party apps.
Insurance Transactions
Reward Points will be awarded on insurance transactions; however, they will be subject to a monthly cap, which will be based on the specific credit card variant, as outlined in the table below.
HDFC Card | Capping (Rps per month) |
Infinia, Infinia Metal | 10,000 |
Diners Black, Diners Black Metal, Biz Black Metal | 5,000 |
Other cards | 2,000 |
Credit Cards like Marriott Bonvoy will continue to enjoy uncapped rewards on insurance transactions. While some entry-level cards like Millennia, UPI, BIZ UPI, Swiggy, BIZ First, Paytm, Paytm Business, Easy EMI Millennia, Best Price Save Smart, and Bharat will follow their current reward rules without any change.
