Antilia, the mansion of the Ambani family, is a symbol of luxury and architectural greatness in Mumbai. The 27-storey tower has an estimated construction cost of Rs 17,400 crore; making it not only one of the most expensive residences in India but also one of the most expensive buildings in the world.
Design And Engineering Marvel
Designed by the famous American architectural practice Perkins & Will, constructed by Leighton Asia, the tower has many features to ensure it is unique. The tower has three helicopter pads, a garage capable of holding 168 cars, and a snow room where snow falls (in both construction, and air conditioning) in humid Mumbai, combining state of the art engineering and opulence, the building is even built to sustain earthquakes of up to 8.0 magnitude as well as its opulence.
Perkins & Will: The Visionaries Behind The Design
Founded in 1935, Perkins & Will’s founders, Lawrence Perkins and Philip Will Jr., understood their commitment to a multi-disciplinary approach to the design disciplines they work with on their projects, while also recognising the need for a company-wide inclusive culture. Perkins & Will is now part of the Dar Al-Handasah group and continues to promote and encourage an inclusive design process, drawing from a wealth of cross disciplinary knowledge.
Construction Excellence By Leighton Asia
When building the Ambani Residence, Perkins & Will provided the design excellence that Leverton Asia, a large infrastructure and construction services provider across the Asia-Pac, would execute on the task. Leighton Asia is part of CIMIC Group, an Australian multinational construction, mining and engineering group with whom Reliance Industries has partnered successfully on a number of other projects, including other high profile projects such as the K-12 International School.
Interior Elegance By Gauri Khan
Personalizing the elegance of Antilia’s interiors, celebrated designer Gauri Khan took on the challenge of developing a chic bar lounge within the residence in 2019. Gauri, who is known for her understated style, soft pastel hues, and lavish lotus patterns, channeled a degree of simplicity with just a hint of glamour in the lounge space. Gauri was named one of Fortune India’s 50 Most Powerful Women in 2018 for her extraordinary work.
A Lasting Impression
Antilia continues to captivate onlookers and architecture lovers with its scale and extravagance but also with its blend of luxury, stability, and careful design.
