RuPay, BOBCARD Launch Spending-Based Lounge Access Rules From January 2025, Know About These

Starting January 1, 2025, significant changes will be implemented regarding airport lounge access for credit cardholders.

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced tier-based guidelines for exclusive RuPay lounge access, launching the first of its kind at Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI). This premium lounge offers a variety of services, including an extensive menu and entertainment options.

Starting January 2025, the lounge will be accessible only to RuPay cardholders with Platinum, Select, or higher-tier variants, based on their quarterly spending tracked via the RuPay Benefit Management System (RBMS).

The Tiered System Is Divided Into Four Levels:

Tier I: Spend between ₹10,000 and ₹50,000 to get two complimentary visits per quarter.

Tier II: Spend between ₹50,001 and ₹1 lakh to earn four visits.

Tier III: Spend between ₹1 lakh and ₹5 lakh for eight visits.

Tier IV: Spend above ₹5 lakh for unlimited visits per quarter.

The number of visits resets each quarter, allowing cardholders to maximize lounge access based on their spending habits.

Alongside NPCI’s update, BOBCARD will also implement changes to its domestic lounge access policy from the same date. Cardholders of Eterna, Tiara, and Varunah Premium must spend ₹40,000 to qualify for unlimited visits, while those holding Varunah Plus, The Sentinel, Rakshamah, and Yoddha need to spend at least ₹20,000 for 1 to 3 complimentary visits per quarter, depending on the card type. New cardholders are exempt from the spending requirement for their first calendar quarter.

BOBCARD users can track their spending through the official portal or mobile app. Lounge access will now be available at major domestic airports such as Agartala, Ahmedabad, and Bengaluru, with visits varying based on the card type and spending criteria.
