Bengaluru Metro: Good News! 216 New Coaches Arriving For Purple, Green And Yellow Lines Soon – Check Details

Out of the 216 bogies, 126 coaches, including 21 six-coach trains will run on Purple and Green lines, while 90 coaches with 15 six-coach trains will serve the Yellow Line.

In the latest update, the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) confirmed that Yellow Line’s first CBTC train from Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL) is expected to arrive on Jan 15, 2025, at Hebbagodi Depot. Additionally, the BMRCL on Friday announced the prototype distance-to-go (DTG) train for the city’s purple line will reach Chennai port by the end of December 2024. It will reportedly be delivered to Peenya depot by the 10th of January, 2025, easing congestion on the heavily populated line.

According to reports, the prototype is set to undergo static and electrical circuit tests along with dynamic tests on the mainline, after being assembled. The contract to supply 216 new coaches for the Bengaluru metro’s Phase II project (73.95 km) was handed over to China’s CRRC Corporation Ltd.

216 Coaches Under Contract For Expansion

Out of the 216 bogies, 126 coaches, including 21 six-coach trains will run on Purple and Green lines, while 90 coaches with 15 six-coach trains will serve the Yellow Line.

The remaining 20 six-coach DTG trains will be built by CRRC’s partner TRSL at West Bengal’s Uttarpara facility. The first DTG train from TRSL for the Yellow line is expected by January 15, 2025, and the second train in February. Meanwhile, the 21 DTG trains will likely be received by the first quarter of 2027.

According to BMRCL officials, the remaining 34 trainsets (14 CBTC and 20 DTG) are being manufactured in India. The Yellow Line’s operations, originally expected to start by 2021, were delayed due to Covid-19, FDI norms, and trade restrictions with China, reports added.
