Inspections have been ordered by the mayor and ministers of the Delhi government. Today, Atishi, the minister of the Delhi Public Works Department (PWD), would also visit waterlogged districts. She’ll be in the Tilak Bridge area at 12 p.m.

In a tweet, CM Arvind Kejriwal said, “Yesterday, Delhi received 126mm of rainfall. 15% of the total monsoon season’s rainfall occurred within just 12 hours. People faced a lot of trouble due to waterlogging. Today, all the ministers and the mayor of Delhi will inspect the problem areas. Instructions have been given to the officials of all departments to cancel their Sunday holiday and be present on the ground.”

On Sunday, heavy rain in numerous parts of the national capital caused havoc in residential and business sectors, with swamped roads and overflowing sewers causing severe waterlogging and paralysing traffic for hours.

More showers are expected in Delhi today, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The torrential rain flooded low-lying regions and caused traffic chaos. Images and videos of commuters wading through knee-deep water filled social media, raising concerns about the city’s drainage system’s effectiveness.

Saturday’s first period of heavy monsoon rain lasted for several hours, causing water to pour into the storerooms of the city’s most popular shopping centre, Connaught Place. Due to waterlogging, the Minto Bridges underpass was closed to traffic.

The devastation caused by the torrential rain also revealed the preparations of several civic bodies ahead of September, when the national capital will host six G20 Summit events, including the summit meeting.
