New Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has decided to continue the life and medical insurance policy for the lawyers of Delhi, keeping his promise made during the elections. On Tuesday, the Delhi cabinet under the leadership of CM Kejriwal approved the continuation of the ‘Chief Minister Advocate Welfare Scheme’. Under this scheme, registered lawyers get life insurance up to Rs 10 lakh, as well as medical claims up to Rs five lakh for lawyers and their two dependent children.

Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj said that CM Arvind Kejriwal, fulfilling his promise, has taken forward the life insurance and mediclaim policy for lawyers and their families.

The cabinet meeting was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The Chief Secretary and senior officers of the concerned departments were present in the meeting along with all the cabinet ministers. In the cabinet meeting, Law Minister Kailash Gehlot decided to continue the earlier policy with similar conditions to provide group term insurance and group mediclaim insurance respectively to advocates registered with the Bar Council of Delhi named in the Electoral Roll of Delhi under the Mukhya Mantri Advocates Welfare Scheme.

The cabinet minister had proposed setting up of printer e-library facility in all 6 district courts and a creche facility for advocates and staff in each district. Which was approved for expenditure in the cabinet meeting.

Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj said that CM Arvind Kejriwal had promised the lawyers of Delhi before this election that he would give life insurance and mediclaim insurance to the lawyers and their families. Fulfilling the promise, the Kejriwal government has also taken this policy forward. Its instalment will go to LIC of Group Insurance and New India Insurance of Mediclaim Insurance. The cabinet has decided in this regard today.

Notably, the Delhi government under the leadership of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal launched the Chief Minister Advocate Welfare Scheme for the lawyers of Delhi in November 2020. Under this scheme, life insurance of up to Rs 10 lakh is given to the lawyers. Apart from this, group mediclaim coverage of up to five lakh rupees is given to lawyers and their spouse and their two dependent children till the age of 25 years. ‘Cresh’ is also provided free of cost in six district courts under the scheme.

When the scheme was launched in November 2020, more than 24 thousand lawyers registered themselves under this scheme. However, now the number of advocates who have registered themselves under this scheme has crossed 30 thousand.
