Delhi Floods: In the wake of the flood like situation in the national capital, Delhi government on Thursday issued an order banning the entry of heavy goods vehicles and interstate buses in the city.

On Thursday, at 1 pm, the water level in Yamuna recorded was 208.62 meters due to the continues release of water from Hathnikund barrage in Haryana into the river. The current water level is three meters above the danger mark.

As per the order dated July 13, 2023, in view of the abnormally rising water level of Yamuna River which has breached the danger level and leading to the risk of flooding in some parts of Delhi.

“Given the exigency of the situation, in exercise of provision of section 115 MV Act 1988, It is hereby ordered that the entry of Heavy Goods Vehicles is hereby banned from the Singhu Border, Badarpur Border, Loni Border and Chilla Border,” it stated.

“Furthermore, Inter-State buses from Haryana, Himachal, Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand terminating at ISBT Kashmere gate will terminate at Singhu border,” the order said.

“The directions will remain implemented till further order. These directions shall not apply to truck carrying essential commodities i.e. medicines, raw vegetables, fruits, grains, milk, eggs, ice etc. that is to be used as food items and tankers carrying petroleum products,” the order further added.

Meanwhile, addressing the media, Delhi Chief Minster Arvind Kejriwal said, “I would like to request people to not step out if it is not essential and resort to Work from Home. We have closed the schools in affected areas. We are also trying to provide all facilities at the relief camps…As per the CWC (Central Water Commission) prediction, the peak (of river Yamuna’s water level) will reach by 3-4 pm today and it will then start going down”.

Due to the rising water level of Yamuna river, several parts of the national capital submerged including Monastery Market, Yamuna Bazar, Garhi Mandu, Geeta Ghat, Vishwakarma Colony, Khadda Colony, areas around Neeli Chhatri Temple near old railway bridge, Neem Karoli Gaushala and ring road from Wazirabad to Majnu Ka Tila.
