International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, observed annually on June 26, raises awareness about the adverse effects of drugs on society. To commemorate the occasion, the dept of Social Justice and Empowerment (DoSJE), Government of India, is organizing an event at New Delhi’s Dr. Ambedkar International Centre. Union Minister Shri B.L. Verma is invited as the Chief Guest, accompanied by senior officers.
To raise awareness about the adverse effects of drug use, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MoSJE) is implementing the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) in every district. Programs have been conducted across the country under the NMBA from June 1 to 26 in all the States, Union Territories and all the NGOs/VOs.
Achievements Of NMBA
- 15.78+ crore people have been sensitized on substance use, including over 5 Crore Youth and 3 Crore Women.
- Participation of more than 4 Lakh educational institutions to spread the message of the Abhiyaan.
- A strong force of 20,000+ Master Volunteers (MVs) have been identified and trained.
- Raising awareness through Social Media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
- The NMBA Mobile Application collects data on a real-time basis from the districts and master volunteers. This App is available in the Google Play Store.
- The official website of NMBA: http://nmba.dosje.gov.in provides details regarding the Abhiyaan.
- Over 1 Crore students from 99,595 educational institutions pledge to be drug-free.
- Events like ‘Nashe se Azaadi, ‘Naya Bharat, Nasha Mukt Bharat’, and ‘NMBA Interaction with NCC’ are conducted to connect with youth and children.
