Noida’s unruly lane shifting and traffic congestion have become a daily nightmare for commuters. To tackle this, Noida Traffic Police has been tightening regulations regularly. Now, a new traffic rule is in place—’No Lane Changing Zones’ have been introduced at three key locations, with strict penalties for violators.
Three Locations with New ‘No Lane Changing Zones’
- Charkha Roundabout near Amity University
- Gardens Galleria Mall to Film City
- Bird Feeding Point near Dalit Prerna Sthal
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Lakhan Singh Yadav warned, “Commuters will not be allowed to change lanes at the end of a junction, as it disrupts traffic. They must follow the signboards and adhere to the rules, or they will be fined.”
Clear Signage
To make things easier for drivers, signboards reading “Lane Change Zone Start” and “Lane Change Prohibited” have been placed 100 meters before these intersections. This ensures motorists have enough time to switch lanes smoothly before entering the restricted zone.
Fine For Violating The Rule
The fine for violating lane discipline has also been increased from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000
As per Section 119/177 of the Motor Vehicles Act, all drivers must follow traffic signs and regulations in public places. Ignoring lane discipline rules could result in a ₹2,000 fine. Repeat offenders may face even harsher penalties under Section 184, with fines reaching up to ₹5,000 for dangerous driving.
Why These Restrictions?
Sudden lane changes can throw traffic into chaos, causing vehicles to brake abruptly and increasing the chances of accidents and gridlocks. By enforcing lane discipline, authorities aim to ensure a safer, smoother, and more hassle-free commute for everyone on the road.
Strict Monitoring & E-Challans
As per the traffic police, officers will be deployed at the designated locations from 8 AM to 1 PM and from 4 PM to 9 PM. E-challans will also be issued to violators.
