Traffic Congestion ALERT! Delhi-Meerut Expressway Maintenance Work In Gazhipur – Commuters, Read This Before You Start!

Commuters using the Delhi-Meerut Expressway should be aware of potential traffic congestion due to ongoing maintenance work.

The Delhi-Meerut Expressway has been jam-packed for the last 10 days as the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is carrying out maintenance work on a flyover near Ghazipur, Delhi. Due to a closure of one lane out of three, the bottleneck has become a new congestion point, which triggered a long snarl of vehicles.

The traffic jam from Ghazipur to Samspur Jagir is about four-kilometer-long after the official hours, said commuters stranded there. The commuters stuck in the traffic jam said that the administration did not make adequate arrangements to deal with the issue and they are facing a double impact continually just due to mismanagement by the authorities during peak hours in the festival season.

The authorities are conducting repair work of the expansive joint on the flyover near Ghazipur, which has resulted in vehicular movement being stuck in the traffic jam with NHAI closing one lane on the left side of the expressway heading from Delhi to Meerut, placing stone barricades. While one lane has been closed, two lanes are operational on the expressway.

Aside from this, they also stated that two security officials and five other officials have been employed to clear the traffic congestion. However, the extra number of vehicles because of festive season has created such a massive traffic jam. While the commuters have alleged mismanagement on the part of the authorities, officials stated they had already released an advisory for the commuters.

Arvind Kumar, who is the NHAI project director, said that they had gotten permission from the police of Delhi to start the maintenance work. “The work is being done in a systematic manner and will be completed by March 25. Every year, NHAI repairs the expansion of some flyover or the other. This is also necessary because due to lack of repairs, the expansion of the flyover starts to shake. There is a lot of pressure of vehicles on the expressway, due to repair work the speed of vehicles is slowing down,” said Kumar as quoted by Jagran.
