Hyderabad: A case of dowry harassment has been reported in Hyderabad, where a newlywed bride reportedly died by suicide at her home in KPHB Colony. According to reports, the 19-year-old deceased, identified as Maloth Poojitha, tied the knot with her husband, Jatoh Srinu. The man, a jewelry store sales executive, had married her on April 16, 2025.
In-Laws Allegedly Demanded Additional Rs 10 Lakh
The deceased woman’s grandmother, a farmer by profession, said that the family had incurred Rs 11 lakh on the marriage, Siasat reported. It has been learnt that Poojitha’s in-laws had demanded a dowry of additional Rs 10 lakh after the wedding. Based on the complaint, her mother and brother in-laws, including her sister & brother-in-law, had constantly taunted her at times.

When Poojitha’s grandmother, Bhadaramma, learned about the alleged dowry harassment faced by her, she pleaded with them to stop. Meanwhile, she also promised to give the additional amount demanded after the next crop season. However, Poojitha’s in-laws continued to mistreat her. Reports added that the newlywed couple had shifted to their new home in KPHB Colony at the start of June. On June 21, Srinu found Poojitha dead at their residence after returning from work. Investigations to find out the exact reason behind the extreme step are underway.
