The cabinet has also agreed to create a separate development board for minorities and migrant labourers. Sagardighi Assembly, situated in the Murshidabad district, has a huge Muslim population and is home to lakhs of migrant labourers.

The Sagardighi by-poll was held on 27 February 2023 after TMC MLA Subrata Saha died. Mamata’s party had been winning the seat since 2011. Congress Candidate Bayron Biswas won by over 22 thousand votes against TMC’s Debasish Banerjee in this by-election.
