A heart-wrenching incident has come to light from the Ashrafabad area near the Chowk police station on Monday morning. The case involves three members of a family who were found dead in their flat. The deceased have been now identified as 48-year-old businessman Shobhit Rastogi, his wife Suchita Rastogi, and their 16-year-old daughter Khyati Rastogi. The family is believed to have died by suicide after consuming poison together.
Shobhit Rastogi, a well-known cloth merchant based in Rajajipuram, had reportedly been dealing with severe financial stress due to huge pending bank loans. On Monday morning, after allegedly ingesting a poisonous substance (suspected to be sulphas), the family’s health condition began to deteriorate rapidly. In a desperate attempt to seek help, the daughter somehow managed to inform a close relative about their failing health. But unfortunately, by the time help arrived, all three had succumbed and were found dead
The police team, along with senior officers, reached the scene shortly after receiving the information. After which, the Forensic experts were called in and the entire residence was sealed for investigation. A suicide note was then recovered from the house, which mentioned financial burdens and debt which is now believed as a reason behind the extreme step taken by the family. However, the officials have now stated that the exact motive behind the incident is still under investigation and will be investigated thoroughly.
DCP West Vishwajeet Srivastava visited the site, examined the situation, and interacted with the family’s relatives to gather more details. Statements from neighbors and family members are being recorded, and forensic teams are collecting evidence from the spot.
The bodies have now been sent for post-mortem, and further investigation is still underway to ascertain the full circumstances behind the tragedy.
