New Delhi: The Gujarat High Court on Thursday came down heavily at the Bharatiya Janata Party-led state government regarding the lower compensation paid to the kins of victims in the Morbi Bridge Tragedy.

Noting that the compensation provided is low, the HC asked the state to file a detailed affidavit and come out with a policy for compensation.

It said the compensation amount should be realistic and also the need of the hour is paying appropriate compensation.

Orders Survey of All Bridges 

Following the hearing, the court also issued an order to the state government to run survey on all the bridges in Gujarat. The decision was taken in order to find out if the bridges are in good condition to be opened for tourists.

The High Court clearly stated that the state government should submit a certifed report, mentioning how many of them are in same condition.

What happened in Morbi?

A hanging bridge in Gujarat’s Morbi town collapsed on October 30 in which over hundreds of people lost their lives. The bridge was a tourist place and it was crowded on the day of incident.

A company called Oreva had renovated the bridge recently and thrown open for public. However, there were shocking revelations after the case started to unfold post the incident.

Company invokes God’s Hand Behind The Mishap

Prior to that, one of the accused managers of the Oreva Company responsible to renovate the Morbi Brdige said that the mishap was an “Act of God.”

“One of the two managers of Oreva company (that have been arrested) told the court that it is an ‘Act of God’,” said Additional Public Prosecutor, Advocate HS Panchal.
