New Delhi: Nitin Chandrakant Desai died by suicide at the age of 57. As per media reports, he was found dead at his studio in Karjat, Maharashtra. The death has shocked the entire nation as Desai had given so much to the Bollywood and film industry.

Born on 6 August 1965 at Bhagwat Multispeciality Hospital in Maharashtra’s Dapoli, Nitin Chandrakant Desai completed his schooling at a Marathi medium school named Wamanrao Muranjan High School in Mulund, Mumbai. Later he studied photography at the J.J. School of Art and L.S.Raheja School of Arts, in Mumbai.

Films He Worked For 

Desai was a renowned Indian art director and production designer of Indian cinema, he was most known for his work in Marathi and Hindi Films. He worked at films including Lagaan (2001), Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), Jodhaa Akbar (2008), Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015) and Devdas (2002).

Big Directors Like Bhansali, Rakumar Hirani

In twenty years of his career, Desai has collaborated with celebrating directors like Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Ashutosh Gowarikar, Rajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

The art director turned into a film producer in 2002 with Chandrakant Productions’ Desh Devi that is a devotional film on the Devi Mata of Kutch.

Won National Awards 

Desai had won many accolades. He was the four-time winner of National Film Award for Best Art Direction and three-time Filmfare Best Art Direction Award holder. Carrying on his career, Desai opened ND Studios that spread over 52 acres (21 ha) at Karjat, Navi Mumbai.

It is fascinating to know that they have hosted movies like Jodha Akbar, Traffic Signal as also Color’s reality show Big Boss.
