‘As A Muslim, I’m Not…’, Aamir Khan Reflects On The Power of Namaste

Aamir Khan shared a heartfelt account in Hindi, expressing his deep connection with a particular story. He reminisced about the time when they filmed Rang de Basanti in Punjab, emphasizing his fondness for the region and its people. He described the warmth of the Punjabi culture and recounted his experience during the shoot of Dangal in a small village. Despite the early hours of his arrival, he was greeted by locals with folded hands and the traditional greeting ‘Sat Sri Akaal’. They eagerly awaited his arrival and bid him farewell with a heartfelt ‘Good Night’ upon his departure.

Aamir Khan, reflecting on his upbringing in a Muslim family, confessed that he was not accustomed to the traditional Indian greeting of ‘namaste,’ as he was more familiar with the gesture of ‘adaab.’ However, after spending an extensive period in Punjab during the filming of Dangal, he underwent a transformation in his perspective. He remarked on the profound impact of experiencing the local culture, emphasizing the significance of ‘namaste’ as a gesture of respect and humility. He lauded the people of Punjab for their inclusive and respectful demeanor, noting that they treated everyone with equal regard, regardless of their social status.

Aamir Khan’s last major role was in Laal Singh Chaddha (2022), and he made a cameo appearance in Revathi’s Salaam Venky (2022), featuring Kajol in the lead role. Excitingly, Aamir Khan is gearing up for his next acting venture alongside Sunny Deol in Lahore 1947, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir himself. It sounds like a promising collaboration with a talented team behind it.
