Punjabi actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh is receiving a backlash following the release of his new film Sardaar Ji 3, this time in overseas markets, featuring a Pakistani actress Hania Amir. Numerous individuals on social media are unsatisfied and have even called out to ban Diljit, others have called to remove Diljit in the upcoming Bollywood movie Border 2.
According to Hindustan Times, a reliable source within the Border 2 team said, “There is no plan to replace or remove Diljit from Border 2. The announcement about his casting was made almost nine months back, before any of the unfortunate situations had happened. Almost 40-50 percent of the film’s shooting has already been done, so making any change at this point is not possible.”
On June 25, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) wrote letters to Bhushan Kumar (co-producer of Border 2) and Sunny Deol, asking them to sever their association with Diljit. However, neither of them has reacted so far.
FWICE has also sent a letter to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah to withdraw the license of shooting Border 2 in the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Pune.
As per Hindustan Times it is said that the Border 2 makers may come up with a statement regarding the issue shortly.
In this row, Neeru Bajwa, who co-stars with Diljit in Sardaar Ji 3 has removed all the posts of the film on her Instagram account, including trailer and songs. Although she is not yet officially commenting on this, people are speculating that she is trying to distance herself away with the controversy.
