Doja Cat Breaks Silence On Oscars Performance Criticism, Says ‘A Lot Of People Didn’t Like It’

Doja Cat addressed the Oscars performance criticism and posted it on her instagram.

Doja Cat, along with her “Born Again” collaborators, Lisa and Raye, performed a medley of songs from the James Bond movies at the 97th Academy Awards. The performance was meant to honour the iconic 007 franchise, but it didn’t receive a positive reaction from many people online.

On Instagram, Doja Cat addressed the criticism, saying, “I danced with Sarah Paulson last night, and Flow is my favorite movie because it’s about friendship. Thanks to the Academy Awards and Vanity Fair for having me. I don’t often get to sing like that, and it was brave and scary for me.” She added, “I know a lot of people didn’t like it, but some did, and I’m proud I pushed myself. The song is a classic, and I worked hard on it, but nerves got to me, and I missed some notes. I can’t wait to try something like that again. It was such a blessing, and I feel great about it. Bye.”

According to Deadline, the tribute began with a dance performance by Margaret Qualley, who wore a satin red dress and honored the Bond girls from past movies. This was followed by performances from Lisa, who sang Paul McCartney and Wings’ “Live and Let Die,” Doja Cat, who performed “Diamonds Are Forever” (a song by Shirley Bassey), and Raye, who finished with Adele’s “Skyfall.”

In another post, Raye said she was really nervous about singing the song, as no one can perform Adele’s song like Adele herself, but she gave it her best shot. Lisa, who is also acting in The White Lotus Season 3, shared on Instagram that she was happy to be reunited with her “Born Again” sisters at the Oscars.

The Oscars 2025 took place at the Dolby Theatre on Sunday night.
