Govinda has recently discussed about a slapping case that happened over him a decade ago. The case, which started from an accident on the sets of his film ‘Money Hai Toh Honey Hai’, had continued on for about nine years before it was dismissed in 2017. Govinda shared details about the case and how a sting operation led to its resolution.
The Incident That Led To The Case
In 2008, Govinda slapped a man named Santosh on the set of his film after an argument. Santosh later filed a case against the actor for assault and demanded monetary compensation.
According to Govinda, the man had misbehaved with some of the women on the film’s staff, which led to the actor’s outburst. Govinda explained during an interview on Mukesh Khanna’s YouTube channel, “A lot of women told me not to tolerate his behaviour. I saw that no one was supporting me and those who had always been by my side were trying to bring me down.”
Govinda’s Shocking Sting Operation
The case went continued for nearly a decade but in a twist, Govinda revealed that a friend of his suggested him to conduct a sting operation on Santosh. The actor recorded a conversation where Santosh allegedly demanded Rs. 3-4 crores to drop the case.
Govinda recorded the conversation and put the audio clip in front of the court which ultimately helped dismiss the case. “The slapping case was so lucky for me,” Govinda said. “Somebody was misbehaving, and I slapped the person. A friend told me to record whatever he was asking for, and it turned out to be exactly what I needed.”
The case was finally came to it’s end in 2017 when the Supreme Court instructed the actor to apologise to Santosh and in exchange, Santosh withdrew his demand for financial compensation and then matter was officially closed.
Govinda’s Career
Govinda rose to fame with various hits in the 90s and early 2000s but his on-screen presence in the film industry declined by 2010s. Despite doing some of the supporting roles in films like Holiday and Kill Dil, he was mostly seen in delayed releases.
