KBC 16: The Rs 1 Crore Question That Made Chander Parkash The Season’s First Crorepati

In an emotional moment on Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) season 16, Chander Parkash, a 22-year-old UPSC aspirant from Jammu & Kashmir, made history by becoming the first crorepati of the season. Hosted by Amitabh Bachchan, the show saw Chander walk away with Rs 1 crore after answering the Rs 1 crore question. Overwhelmed with joy, Bachchan hugged the young contestant as the studio erupted in applause.

The Rs 1 Crore Question

The pivotal question that secured Chander’s win was a geographic one. It asked, “The largest city in which country is not its capital but a port with an Arabic name that means ‘abode of peace’?” The options were:

•   A) Somalia
•   B) Oman
•   C) Tanzania
•   D) Brunei

Chander used his final lifeline, the ‘Double Dip’, to eliminate incorrect answers. He then confidently selected Option C – Tanzania – which was correct, making him the first crorepati of the season.

Rs 50 Lakh Question

Earlier in the game, Chander was posed a mythological question worth Rs 50 lakh: “According to the Padma Purana, with whom did Lord Krishna wage a battle over the fate of Chitrasena?”
Faced with uncertainty, Chander opted for the ‘Video Call A Friend’ lifeline and then turned to the ‘Audience Poll’. With their help, he selected Option B – Arjuna, securing the Rs 50 lakh prize.

One of the standout moments in the episode was when Chander quickly answered a Rs 3.2 lakh sports-related question. He was asked, “A ‘yokozuna’ is the highest rank attainable in which contact sport?” Without hesitation, he chose Option B – Sumo Wrestling, which was correct.

The Rs 7 Crore Question

After winning Rs 1 crore, Chander faced the final Rs 7 crore jackpot question: “Who was the first recorded child born to English parents in North America in 1587?” Even though he was fairly certain of the answer, Chander decided to quit the game, as he had no lifelines remaining. After choosing to walk away with Rs 1 crore, he revealed his answer, Option A – Virginia Dare, which turned out to be correct.

Life-Changing Victory

Along with the Rs 1 crore, Chander also took home a brand-new Hyundai Venue SUV, cementing his life-changing victory on the KBC stage.
