Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan and Ananya Panday teamed up for the courtroom drama ‘Kesari Chapter 2’, which is set against the backdrop of Jallianwala Bagh tragedy. The movie also marks the directorial debut of Karan Singh Tyagi, who has been receiving a good response for her direction. The movie created hype before its release, resulting in a decent opening in theatres.
Kesari Chapter 2 Box Office Collection Day 1:
According to the website Sacnilk, Kesari Chapter 2 earned Rs 7.50 crore on day 1. Even though this is a decent opening for the film, the numbers are less than Akshay’s last release Sky Force, which was also a patriotic film.
The movie is based on the book ‘The Case That Shook The Empire’, written by written by Raghu Palat. For the unversed, Palat is the great-grandson of C Sankaran Nair, who fought the Britishers in the court after the tragedy of Jallianwala Bagh.
At the trailer launch of Kesari Chapter 2, Raghu Palat became emotional on stage and praised everyone in the team. While adressing the media, he said, “This film is every emotional to me because it brought the struggle he went to life.” He further expressed his gratitude Karan Johar, Akshay Kumar and director Karan Singh Tyagi for making Kesari Chapter 2.
Akshay Kumar played the role of C Sankaran Nair, who fought against the Crown in the court to hold them accountable for Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Recently, PM Narendra Modi mentioned the contribution of C Sankaran Nair in the freedom struggle and Akshay express gratitude for recognising Nair’s work.
Sharing PM Modi’s video on Instagram, he wrote, “Thank you Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji for remembering the great Chettur Sankaran Nair ji and his contribution to our freedom struggle. It is so important that we as a nation, especially the younger generation values the great women and men who fought valiantly to ensure that we breathe in a free country! Our Kesari Chapter 2, is a humble effort to remind everyone that we must never take our freedom for granted!”
The movie also stars Regina Cassandra, Simon Paisley Day, Alexx O’Nell, Amit Sial, Mark Bennington and Krish Rao in the pivotal roles.
