Legendary filmmaker-actor Kasinadhuni Viswanath dies in Hyderabad

New Delhi: Filmmaker Kasinadhuni Viswanath, the recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, passed away in a local private hospital. He was 92. According to reports, Viswanath had been ill for a while and was experiencing age-related problems.

Around Wednesday night’s midnight, he passed away at the hospital. Viswanath also referred to as “Kalatapasvi,” was born in Andhra Pradesh in February of 1930. He received the Dadasaheb Phalke award, the highest honour in Indian cinema, becoming the 48th recipient. The filmmaker was a well-known name not just in Telugu but also in Tamil and Hindi films.

He received the distinction for the 2016 calendar year. According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office, K Chandrasekhar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, sent his condolences on Viswanath’s passing. In a long career that included an equally successful period in front of the camera, Viswanath, who began his career as a sound artist, directed films that won awards such as “Sankarabharanam,” “Sagara Sangamam,” “Swati Mutyam,” “Saptapadi,” “Kaamchor,” “Sanjog,” and “Jaag Utha Insaan.”

He also received the Padma Shri award in 1992, five National Awards, 20 Nandi Awards (presented by the government of Andhra Pradesh), and 10 Filmfare awards, including the Lifetime Achievement trophy. In the Telugu cinema industry, Viswanath, a prominent director, produced 50 films since 1965. Additionally, he had a film career in Tamil and Hindi.

With “Aatma Gowravam,” which featured Akkineni Nageswara Rao and won the Nandi Award for best feature film, he made his directorial debut. Following it, the director released “Chelleli Kapuram,” “O Seeta Katha,” “Jeevana Jyoti,” and “Sarada.” In addition to performing in major films, Viswanath also directed some of them, including “Swarabhishekam,” “Pandurangadu,” “Narasimha Naidu,” “Lakshmi Narasimha” and “Seemasimham,” “Kuruthipunal,” “Kakkai Siraginilae,” and “Bagavathi.”
