Bollywood witnessed the release of two big movies this week: ‘Maalik’ and ‘Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan’. Both films generated significant buzz ahead of their release, but had to face tough competition from DC’s new film, ‘Superman’. ‘Maalik’ stars Rajkummar Rao and Manushi Chhillar in the lead roles, whereas ‘Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan’ features Vikrant Massey and Shanaya Kapoor. Here’s a look at the opening day box office collection of both films.
Maalik Vs Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan Box Office Collection Day 1:
According to Sacnilk, ‘Maalik’ had a decent theatrical opening, collecting Rs 3.35 crore on Day 1. In contrast, ‘Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan’ struggled to draw audiences, managing to earn just Rs 35 lakh.
About Maalik
Apart from Rajkummar and Manushi, the movie also stars Prosenjit Chatterjee, Huma Qureshi, Saurabh Sachdeva, Saurabh Shukla, Anshumaan Pushkar, Swanand Kirkire, Rajendra Gupta, and Baljinder Kaur in supporting roles. ‘Maalik’ is a gangster drama that focuses on a man’s rise to power in the underworld.
While speaking to NDTV, Rajkummar talked about doing this intense character in ‘Maalik’ and stepping into an action role for the first time. He shared, “Stepping out of such an intense role is easier than getting into it, because getting into it, you’re still figuring it out. There’s a process of growing your beard and then beating up people, so that takes time. And to understand the core of the character is another thing altogether. Because I’ve never played such a ferocious character before, you know, someone with so much power. His name itself is Maalik, which took me time. But once you get it, then it’s a lot of fun, and then the journey becomes very exciting.”
About Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan
‘Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan’ focuses on the love story between Jahaan, a visually impaired musician, and Saba, a visually impaired actress.
In an interview with MSN, Vikrant Massey revealed that his role in ‘Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan’ was challenging and also praised Shanaya Kapoor. He shared, “The whole film was a challenge because I have never done something like this. Probably in my film career was the only genre I had not attempted, and to do it with someone like Shanaya. It’s her first film, and playing a blind character. You also want to seem authentic, so you push your boundaries, challenge yourself, and you go out there while singing, dancing and lip-synching to songs. Everything that I was afraid of, which I consciously didn’t do all these years, sab kuch ghum karke ek hi film mein kar diya maine.”
The movie also stars Zain Khan Durrani in the pivotal role. It also marks the Bollywood debut of Shanaya Kapoor.
