Ram Gopal Varma Willing To Appear Digitally Before Police In Alleged Offensive Post Against CM Chandrababu Naidu Case

Ram Gopal Varma's lawyer has said that the filmmaker will corporate with the police and their investigation virtually.

Ram Gopal Varma, renowned filmmaker, got involved in a controversy for allegedly making defamatory remarks against Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on social media. He was reportedly supposed to appear before the police in this case on November 25 but failed to do so. According to India Today, the police were also not able to find Ram Gopal Varma at his house. The filmmaker’s lawyer has said that he is ready to appear before the police virtually.

According to PTI, the lawyer told the reporters that Ram Gopal Varma would cooperate virtually with the investigation. He said, “There is no requirement for physical presence. Now Digital India has come. Likewise, digital policing has also come. So, (physical) presence is not required. Give us virtual mode (opportunity), we will cooperate virtually with the investigation.”

He added, “RGV (Ram Gopal Varma) made no mistake. This is neither sedition nor international mafia. We will follow the rule of law,” he said. The lawyer further added that Varma’s response was sent to the police through WhatsApp and speed post, “which were not yet responded to by the police”.

Meanwhile, Prakasam district superintendent of police A R Damodar told PTI, “He (Varma) did not turn up (for the investigation). We are going ahead legally. He was absent for the second time also. First time, he asked for more time and we gave him one week’s permission.” 

On November 11, the case was registered against Ram Gopal Varma for allegedly tarnishing the reputation of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, IT Minister Nara Lokesh, and others in 2023.
