The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has reportedly filed a closure report in death case of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, who passed away on June 14, 2020. The agency stated in its submission that it found no evidence suggesting foul play in his death. The lawyer of actress Rhea Chakraborty has expressed his gratitude on this verdict and also slammed the false narrative around this case. For the unversed, Rhea was accused of abetment to suicide by Sushant’s family.
Chakraborty’s lawyer, Satish Maneshinde, said in the statement, “We are grateful to the CBI for having thoroughly investigated every aspect of the case from all angles and closed the case.”
Criticising media and social media trial in this case, he added, “The amount of false narrative in the social media and electronic media was totally uncalled for. Due to the pandemic, everyone was glued to the TV and social media, and in the absence of any major developments, innocent people were hounded and paraded before the media and investigative authorities.”

He also praised Rhea and her family for facing this difficult situation and said, “I salute her and her family for having kept silent and yet suffered the inhuman treatment they were meted.”
The CBI had taken over the case from the Bihar Police in August 2020 after Sushant’s father KK Singh filed an FIR in Patna police station. He had accused actress Rhea Chakraborty and others of abetment to suicide, financial fraud, and mental harassment. In response, Rhea Chakraborty filed a counter-complaint in Mumbai, alleging that Sushant’s sisters had obtained a fake medical prescription for him.

Later, Rhea was also arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in September 2020 in connection with a drug-related case. This was surfaced during the investigation of Sushant’s death and Rhea was also in jail for 27 days. She was granted bail by Justice Sarang V Kotwal of the Bombay High Court.
Meanwhile, the death case of celebrity manager Disha Salian, who died a few days before Sushant, has taken a new turn after her father filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking a probe into his daughter’s death. Sushant’s family extended their support towards this PIL.
