As tensions simmer following the tragic terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir the makers of Sunil Shetty’s upcoming film Kesari Veer: The Legends of Somnath have decided not to release the movie in Pakistan. The movie also stars Sooraj Pancholi, Vivek Oberoi, and Akanksha Sharma. It is a historical action film based on real events from the 14th century which tells the story of brave warriors who fought to protect the Somnath temple from foreign invaders.
The film’s producer, Kanu Chauhan, told Indian Express that this decision is not just about business it’s a moral stand “I have informed and instructed my overseas distributor not to allow my film to be released in Pakistan at any cost after hearing and seeing the Pakistani-based militant attack on Indian soil. I don’t want my film to be released in Pakistan. I have zero tolerance and there is zero justification for such cowardly attacks on our soil. I have put my foot down and Kesari Veer will not be released in Pakistan. It’s a moral stand and support towards the innocent victims who lost their lives in this terrorist attack.”
He further added, “Kesari Veer will definitely release in India and other international markets like USA, Gulf, UK, and North America.”
The trailer will be launched in Mumbai on April 29, and promotions will kick off right after that.
The tragic event has reignited tensions between India and Pakistan entertainment industry where many people in India are demanding a ban on Pakistani artists again. In public call to boycott Pakistani artists from Indian platforms Abir Gulaal starring Pakistani actor Fawad Khan and Indian actress Vaani Kapoor is now caught in the middle of. According to media reports, government sources have revealed that Abir Gulaal will not release in India. Film Federations in India have opposed the release of the film and have also warned the makers of taking action against them.
