Amid the controversy surrounding L2: Empuraan and its 26 minutes of cuts—17 in total—over references to the 2002 Gujarat riots, filmmaker Major Ravi has claimed that Mohanlal will soon issue an apology for the film. Major Ravi who is very close to Mohanlal said that the actor had not seen the film before the release of Empuraan. he said that Lal after hearing once the script never suggest any cuts or changes after that. “He does not interfere in the story and does not watch the film before its release.” He said in a video posted on his Meta/Facebook. Major Ravi claims that the controversies surrounding the film have upset Mohanlal, and he will apologize to the audience. He knows that Mohanlal has written an apology and he will post it soon.
Major Ravi also hinted that the 26 minutes cuts in which the film will undergo soon before Monday was suggested by the ‘Complete Actor’.

In a live video on his Facebook, Major Ravi stated that the film does not depict Mohanlal doing anything wrong while wearing a military uniform. Therefore, he opposes the demand to revoke Mohanlal’s military rank over the film.
‘Since yesterday, I have been receiving the most calls from my circle of friends in the army. Many people have called me and said bad things. They are asking what is going on there. I have not come here to whitewash Mohanlal or anyone. There are a few things that Major Ravi, who you believe, wants to say. You may not always see me with Mohanlal, but we are very close friends. You may not always see me walking with him and showing him the way. I will see him on some occasions, when he does good things in many places, I will be with Lal.” He said. It is not about this film, it is about any film, whatever it is, taking away or getting a Colonel rank, it has its own criteria and its own procedures.

Role Of Mohanlal In L2: Empuraan
Mohanlal plays the protagonist in Empuraan. He is also one of the producers of the film. This was the reason why the people are criticizing the actor along with the other producers, script writer Murali Gopi, and with the actor and director of the film, Prithviraj Sukumaran. The Critics say that the film has depicted communal violence which took place in Gujarat riots in 2002. They also claim that the makers has distorted the history and failed to show Godhra incident which was the actual trigger for the riots. According to official figures, the riots ended with 1,044 dead, 223 missing, and 2,500 injured. Of the dead, 790 were Muslim and 254 Hindu.
Controversy Revolving The Film
The movie, which is a sequel to Lucifer (2019), allegedly portrayed the Gujarat riots in a manner that a particular section was the only responsible people which killed 790 people of the other religion. critics along with the BJP, alleges that the movies is to white wash a particular group and to push anti-Hindu narrative. Among other controversial scenes, there is reportedly a scene in the movie where a Muslim family is shown as being brutally killed by Hindu right-wing extremists. Sukumaran, playing second fiddle to Mohanlal’s character in the movie, portrayed a character named Zayed Masood. The CBFC has reviewed the movie and found certain sequences depicting Gujarat riots to be sensitive. A a result the board mandated 17 cuts and modifications which includes trimming of some scenes as well.
The controversial scenes depicting the Godhra riots are shown as part of the backstory of Prithviraj Sukumaran’s character in the film. Besides, the movie allegedly portrays how the BJP, led by then-Gujarat CM Narendra Modi, misused central agencies during the riots.
