Vicky Kaushal might soon step into the shoes of one of Indian cinema’s most revered icons Guru Dutt. According to a Mid-day report, the actor is in early discussions to play the legendary filmmaker and actor in an upcoming biopic. Known for films like Pyaasa, Kaagaz Ke Phool, and Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, Guru Dutt’s, Kaushal is said to be the top contender for the role.
The biopic is reportedly being developed by Ultra Media & Entertainment Group, which holds the rights to Guru Dutt’s filmography. The company is also exploring web adaptations of some of his classics. Rajat Agrawal, COO and Director of Ultra, confirmed the developments, saying, “While biopics are always challenging because they need to emulate an individual’s greatness and achievements, we would be happy to collaborate with producers and a modern-day director, who is a fanatic of Guru Dutt, and see where the project goes.”
Agrawal added that conversations are underway with two acclaimed directors for both a web series adaptation and a biopic on Dutt’s life. He also mentioned that Dutt’s family is involved in the process, “I have spoken to two highly revered directors, who are interested in recreating his movies into web series, and also make [a film] on his life. Once we have something definite, we can talk about it in detail. We are in touch with his family members.”
When asked who could do justice to such a complex role, Agrawal said, “It’s hard to name just one actor, but I believe Vicky Kaushal could portray Guru Dutt’s emotional depth.”
Meanwhile, on the work front, the Chhaava star is also gearing up for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s pLove & War, alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt.
