As the Harman Baweja-Priyanka Chopra’s futuristic fiasco Love Story 2040 clocks seventeen years, I remember how Priyanka had come forward to salvage the project after Kareena Kapoor suddenly backed out, after completing one full scheduleof shooting, leaving Harman’s project in a lurch.
Harman and his father the film’s producer-director Harman Baweja were aghast.
Angrily Harman’s father had told this writer, “How can anyone be so unprofessional? We are contemplating legal action. But before that, what do we do about my son’s project? It is his launch and we are stuck.”
Enter Harman’s saviour. Priyanka Chopra who was at that point of time working on five projects assignments, immediately cleared the decks, and allotted immediate dates for her then-boyfriend’s launchpad.
When I had asked Priyanka about her gesture towards her boyfriend she replied, “Nothing personal. It was a humanitarian gesture. The project was in deep trouble. I was asked to help out. I did what any sensitive human being would have done.”
Generosity of spirit has continued to be Priyanka’s defining characteristic.
