New Delhi: West Bengal is once again seeing a heated political discourse, this time the BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya has taken a dig over CM Mamata Banerjee’s decision on an increment of Rs 500 for Imams. He further said, “Imams are paid 3,000 per month whereas Purohits are paid only 1,500. Exactly half! Similarly, they have no DA to pay to state government employees.”

Yesterday, at a conference of Muslime Clerics in West Bengal, CM Banerjee announced an increase of Rs 500 in the remuneration of Imams and Muezzins.

Triggering Rajesh pilot

Prior to this, Amit Malviya had come into the spotlight for tweeting about Rajesh Pilot, who is the father of the MLA Sachin Pilot.

Amit tweeted, “Rajesh Pilot and Suresh Kalmadi were flying the Indian Air Force planes that dropped bombs on Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram, on 5 March 1966. Later both became MPs on Congress ticket and ministers in the government. It is clear that Indira Gandhi gave a place in politics as a reward, gave respect to those who carried out air raids on their own people in the North East.”

Pilot replies Amit Malviya

After the tweet by Amit Malviya, Sachin Pilot in his reply tweeted, “You have wrong dates and wrong facts. Yes, my late father as an Indian Air Force pilot dropped bombs but they were during the Indo-Pak war of 1971.” It was dropped over the then East Pakistan and not over Mizoram on March 5, 1966, as you claim.”

Furthermore Pilot said, “Yes, as a politician in the 80s, my father had definitely played an important role in getting a ceasefire in Mizoram and establishing a permanent peace treaty. Happy Independence Day, Jai Hind.”
