‘Cooking Beef’ In Hostel Premises: Seven students were expelled from the state-run Parala Maharaja Engineering College in Odisha’s Berhampur for allegedly cooking beef on the hostel premises.

After the tensions prevailed over the incident, dozens of Police Officers were deployed near the college to handle the situation.
DSW Issued Circular On The Beef Cooking Incident
The dean of student welfare issued a circular stating that the hostellers were expelled for being involved in restricted activities and violating the institution’s rules and code of conduct. However, he did not clarify what these restricted activities are. As reported by sources, the expelled students have been asked to pay a fine of Rs 2000 per head.
As per media reports, the expelled students were caught cooking beef on the hostel premises, after which another group went with this complaint to the dean.
Complaint Cites Unrest, Calls For Strict Action On The Incident
The filed complaint read, “As a community, we understand the importance of respecting the beliefs of all students, the incident has caused unrest and discomfort and created a tense atmosphere. I request strict action against the boarders involved in the incident.”
A group of workers from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal also visited the college and demanded strict action against the students.
