A major incident has occurred in the Ambawadi area of Ahmedabad when a water tank suddenly collapsed near the Azad Nagar Society. Reportedly more than 10 people were trapped in this accident, and a rescue operation was launched to bring them out safely.
Two water tanks with a combined capacity of 2,000 litres on the third floor of Apartments near Azad Nagar Society came crashing down with the roof slab following heavy rain in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported as the area was unoccupied at the time. The security forces rushed to the spot and began rescue and clearance operations. The local administration and security forces used a safe ladder to help rescue the trapped individuals. During the rescue, an elderly woman was injured, and treatment has been initiated for her. Currently, all trapped individuals are safe, and the situation is under control.
A report from the Municipal Corporation’s Estate Department is expected soon, which will decide the next course of action, including whether the building will undergo repairs or face demolition. The residents of Birju Apartments have been temporarily relocated as officials assess the damage and safety risks. All this has raised major safety concerns about people living in apartments.
