After the passage of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill from the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi moved the Supreme Court while challenging the bill. The AIMIM chief filed a petition in the Apex Court and contended that the provisions “brazenly violate the fundamental rights of Muslims and the Muslim community.”

Mohamed Jawed said, “…Several people in India will file this petition, several parties will do this…In the Parliament, everyone in the Opposition said that this is unconstitutional. This is a religious body – you are providing freedom to non-Muslims…How can you snatch away our right?..How can you do this violation? If you have numbers, it doesn’t mean you get passed anything you passed and do something unlawful…We have challenged this. We hope that the Supreme Court will take cognisance of this and this will be repealed (Bill) at the earliest.”

Both the MPs were the members of Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). The Muslim organisations staged protests while terming the bill as “unconstitutional.” All India Muslim Personal Law Board, in a post on X, vowed to hold protests nationwide against the Bill.

The AIMPLB wrote on X, “The government’s stance regarding the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 is regrettable. The All India Muslim Personal Law Board will soon undertake nationwide protests and legal action against the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025,”

The grand old party, Congress, also backed the move. Congress MP and party General Secretary in charge of Communications Jairam Ramesh today announced that the party will soon challenge the “constitutionality” of the Waqf Amendment Bill in the Supreme Court.
