The day before becoming the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Telugu Desam Party leader N. Chandrababu Naidu announced on Tuesday that Amaravati would be the state capital.

Naidu Confirms That Amaravati Will Be The State Capital

Chandrababu Naidu stated, “Our capital will be Amaravati. We’ll focus on positive politics, not revengeful politics. Visakhapatnam will serve as the state’s commercial hub. We won’t engage in tactics like having three capitals. Visakhapatnam has given us a clear mandate. We’ll develop Rayalaseema to gain strong support.”

Amaravati regained attention following TDP’s significant win in Andhra Pradesh, securing 164 assembly and 21 Lok Sabha seats, elevating Naidu to a key player in national politics.

In 2019, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy led YSR Congress Party to a resounding victory and proposed decentralized development in the state. Reddy announced plans to develop Visakhapatnam as the administrative capital and to take his oath there.

In December 2019, the YSRCP government proposed three capitals: Visakhapatnam for executive, Amaravati for legislative, and Kurnool for judicial functions.

In March 2022, the Andhra Pradesh high court instructed the YSRCP government to develop Amaravati as the state capital. The government challenged this decision in the Supreme Court, where it’s still pending.

During his election campaign, Naidu pledged to revive development in Amaravati.

Today, Naidu and Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan arrived at Raj Bhavan in Vijayawada to claim formation of the government.

Amit Shah, attending Naidu’s swearing-in ceremony on Wednesday, arrived a day early and is scheduled to meet Naidu at his Vundavalli residence at 10 pm on Tuesday.
