Arvind Kejriwal To Resign From CM Post Today; Who Will Be The Next Delhi Chief Minister?

Today the newly elected legislative party head will take over the position of Chief Minister.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is all set to quit, and Aam Aadmi Party will elect a new leader. The crucial legislative session is scheduled at 11 AM on Tuesday at Kejriwal’s residence. ANI indicates that Kejriwal will submit his resignation letter formally to Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena at 4:30 PM on the same day. In the same hour, the newly elected legislative party leader will be declared the new Chief Minister. The handover will be smooth for a transition in Delhi’s government.

Probable Contenders For The Next Chief Minister Of Delhi
In this regard, the party will take into consideration some crucial MLAs of the party, including candidates belonging to the reserved category as well as the minority community, while planning to gear up for this big change. Though no officially declared communication about the decision, insiders speculate that the party would go for a Dalit or Muslim legislator heading the post of Chief Minister because of the approach of the elections for the state assemblies.

Candidates
Other probable aspirants include Mangolpuri MLA Rakhi Birla, who is also deputy speaker, and Kondli legislator Kuldeep Kumar. Sources in AAP add that the Chief Minister could be a member of the minority community as a gesture towards the minorities to help the party regain the support lost to the minorities since the 2020 Delhi riots.
The New Leadership In The Air
According to AAP insiders, no decision has been finalized so far. However, the party is exploring various options such that the new leader should go with the strategy of elections and demographics’ well-representation. As Delhi awaits this leadership transition, what the party selects will be well-watched in gauging its impact on future electoral prospects.
