Bhopal Conman Dupes Amazon Of Rs 14 Lakh By Swapping Gold Coins; Lured Delivery Boy With Rs 500 To Open Parcel

A shipping crewing company in Powai, Mumbai, reported the theft of 285 gold coins valued at ₹80 lakh.

Bhopal: An e-commerce giant Amazon was allegedly duped of Rs 14 lakh after a Bhopal resident ordered 14 gold coins in two shipments and stole them after giving Rs 7000 as a bribe to the delivery partner, said police, adding that when the shipment returned to the e-commerce company, it was found that gold coins were stolen.

On the complaint of the e-commerce company, police booked the delivery boy and an unidentified accused and started an investigation.  

Investigating officer, Sub-inspector, Uday Sisode said, “An unidentified accused ordered 14 gold coins in two prepaid orders from an e-commerce company. When the delivery executive reached the address to deliver the shipment, the accused asked him to meet at another place.”

“After meeting the delivery partner, the accused lured him into his trap by offering Rs 500 for each parcel and gave Rs 7000 to check the orders before receiving it. He secretly stole all the gold coins and returned the order, saying that he did not want to keep it.”  

Police said following the return of the order, the e-commerce company refunded that prepaid amount, and when the order was checked, the boxes were found empty.  

SI Sisode said, “On the complaint of an e-commerce company, a case was registered at ChunaBhatti police station, and the delivery executive was taken into custody while efforts are underway to nab the accused, who ordered the old coins. Further investigation is underway.”
