A man has been arrested in Bihar for torturing his wife and locking her in a room for two days on suspicion of adultery, police said adding that the woman had also accused her husband of forcing her to consume chilli powder, and burning her thighs with a hot iron.
Police said the woman accused her husband, Shatrughan Rai (40), of attempting to electrocute her; locking her in a room without access to food or water for two days; and taking all the steps above while the neighbours did not intervene despite her blood-curdling screams as they feared retaliation from her husband. She was not rescued until June 15, 2023, when her brother went round to her house. After being discovered, she was taken immediately to hospital.
‘IN-LAWS THREATENED TO KILL ME’
On June 16, the woman filed complaint against her husband, mother-in-law Dukhni Devi (45), brother-in-law Sumesh Rai (30), and sister-in-law Pushpa Devi (26). Although her husband was arrested immediately, the others were on the run.
“Charges related to domestic violence and physical assault have been registered. Raids are underway to arrest the remaining accused,” senior police officer Ram Vinay Kumar as quoted by India Today.
The woman told media that the entire incident started early this year when her husband and his family accused her of cheating. The woman has been married for ten years and the couple has three children.
“For the last six months, my husband and his family have been suspecting. When I offered to undergo a medical test to prove my innocence, they threatened to kill me. Then, they did things that even animals wouldn’t do,” she said.
