Jabalpur Airport received an email threatening a bomb blast, which created panic in the entire airport premises. It was claimed in the email that explosive material has been hidden inside the terminal building and an explosion is going to happen soon.
As soon as the matter was reported, police and security agencies swung into action. The terminal was evacuated and the bomb squad and fire brigade team reached the spot and started an intensive search operation.
During the investigation that lasted for about three hours, no suspicious object or explosive was found in the airport premises.
Currently, Khamaria police station has registered a case against an unknown person and started investigation.
In another development, IndiGo has decided to stop its flights on Jabalpur-Bhopal route citing low passenger numbers. IndiGo’s last flight will be operated on this route on Tuesday.
This is not a new thing, even before this many flights have been stopped due to low passenger numbers. So far, flights on 6 major routes from Jabalpur have been stopped, which include cities like Ahmedabad, Kolkata and Pune.
Even though the airport has been expanded by spending about Rs 450 crore, the continuous decline in the number of aircraft has become a serious problem.
Due to the cancellation of flights, Jabalpur is continuously lagging behind in terms of air service and the passengers are suffering the brunt of this in the form of huge inconvenience.
