BSP Candidate Dies Of Heart Attack Just Before Lok Sabha Polls

Ashok Bhalavi, the BSP candidate from Betul constituency died of heart attack on Tuesday. He was a two-time contender from the seat.

Ashok Bhalavi, the BSP candidate from Betul, Madhya Pradesh died of a heart attack on Tuesday ahead of Lok Sabha polls. Elections are scheduled to be on April 26 in the second phase in the constituency along with other territories like Khajuraho, Rewa, Satna and Hoshangabad.

Ashok was a second-time candidate for the Betul seat from BSP. In the 2019 elections, he garnered 23,573 votes which was 1.74% of the total vote count and was at the third position among the contenders. Durga Das Uikey from BJP won from the constituency.

Humble candidate with clean image

As per his affidavit submitted to the Election Commission of India for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, 48-year-old Bhalavi had Rs. 2 lacs in cash, and his movable assets including an auto-rickshaw and a couple of bank deposits are worth Rs. 6,10,000.

He owns no immovable asset as per the current affidavit whereas his wife owns land worth Rs. 50 lacs. As per his 2019 affidavit, he owned immovable assets worth Rs. 5 lacs and his wife owned worth Rs. 10 lacs.

Ashok Bhalavi had no criminal records in his name and was a crystal clear candidate. His profession was farming and his wife is a homemaker.

A little contradiction

In the 2019 affidavit, Bhalavi stated that he has pursued education up to the fourth standard from a government primary school in 1988. On the contrary, his recent affidavit says that he studied up to fifth standard at a government school and passed in the year 1990.
