Anantapur: A shocking incident in Kalyanadurgam town, Anantapur district, Andhra Pradesh, was captured on CCTV, where a beedi break turned into a fire that engulfed several shops. The fire was sparked when a smoker carelessly flicked a matchstick into a pool of petrol that had leaked from a two-wheeler. The incident, which took place around 11:30 am, resulted in significant property damage, though swift action from local residents prevented further destruction.

Leaked Petrol Sparks Devastating Fire

The fire started after a man bought five liters of petrol from a fuel station, but the container leaked while he was riding. Petrol spilled across the road, pooling near several shops and vehicles. CCTV footage shows two men chatting nearby when one lights a beedi and carelessly flicks the matchstick into the pool of petrol. In seconds, the petrol ignited, causing a large fire that forced bystanders to flee for safety.

Previous Incidents Highlight Risks of Cigarette Fires

This isn’t the first time careless disposal of smoking materials has caused tragedy. Earlier in May, a 28-year-old man in Kolkata lost his life after he fell asleep with a lit cigarette in hand, igniting a fire that ultimately led to his suffocation.
