Centre Approves New 30 km Expressway Linking Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida & Jewar Airport; Details Inside

This route will be built parallel to the existing Noida-Greater Noida Expressway along the Yamuna river and will connect Pushta Road to Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and Yamuna Expressway.

Aiming to robust road network connectivity in Delhi-NCR, the Centre has approved a new 30-km-long expressway connecting Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, and the upcoming project, Jewar International Airport. This route will be constructed parallel to the existing Noida-Greater Noida Expressway along the Yamuna River and connect Pushta Road to the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and Yamuna Expressway. Gautam Buddha Nagar MP Dr. Mahesh Sharma had proposed the project, and recently Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has approved it.

Gadkari, while supporting the project during his visit to the Jewar Airport site under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, said that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will seriously consider it, and there will be no shortage of funds for it.

He informed that projects worth Rs 1.2 lakh crore are slated in the Delhi-NCR region, out of which works worth Rs 60,000 crore have already been completed. The government has a solid plan for future development and is ready to invest an additional Rs 40,000 to 50,000 crore.

The idea of building an expressway along the Yamuna River was approved in principle by the Noida Authority in March 2025. It aims to reduce the traffic burden on the existing Noida-Greater Noida Expressway.

The state chief secretary assigned the task to the UP Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), instructing the Noida, Greater Noida, and Yamuna Expressway authorities to share the cost. However, the Noida Authority wants the NHAI to do the construction work, so that the plan can be executed. After getting the nod from the Center, the possibility of progress in this direction has become stronger. Now, NHAI’s formal approval remains pending.

Currently, the 25-km-long Noida-Greater Noida Expressway is facing the pressure of about 5 lakh vehicles daily. About 2 lakh vehicles come from the DND flyover, and 1 lakh vehicles come via the Chilla Border and Kalindi Kunj. Apart from this, heavy traffic also comes from Sector 15, 16, 18, and 37 of Noida, which causes heavy jams, especially during peak hours.

Dr. Mahesh Sharma said that the new expressway will act as an alternative route, allowing traffic from Delhi to Jewar Airport to pass without the congested Noida Expressway.

“A direct and effective road route is very important to take advantage of the full potential of Jewar Airport,” News 18 quoted Dr. Mahesh Sharma saying. It is worth noting that approximately 11 km of the Yamuna Pushta Road was opened in 2014. However, within a year, it deteriorated due to wear and tear, and traffic on the stretch declined significantly, largely because of security concerns. This time, officials have stressed the importance of improved design and long-term, sustainable construction to prevent a repeat of the past issues. The project will be executed under the supervision of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
