The Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand will begin on April 30, 2025, with the opening of the gates to Gangotri and Yamunotri Temples. Every year, thousands of devotees visit these four important temples: Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. These temples are located in the beautiful Himalayas and offer a deep spiritual experience. The Badrinath temple will open on May 4, 2025, at 6 am, while the opening date for Kedarnath will be announced on Mahashivratri, February 26, 2025.

According to scriptures, taking the Char Dham Yatra can erase all a person’s sins. It is believed that this journey frees people from the cycle of birth and death, helping them attain salvation. This journey is also said to promote spiritual growth.

Char Dham Yatra 2025: Registration Process

Registration for Char Dham Yatra will open soon, both online and offline. Around 60% of registrations will be done online, while 40% will be offline. For the first 15 days, offline registration will be available 24 hours a day. After that, the registration times will change depending on the demand, and if things stay under control, the registration hours might be from 8 am to 11 pm.

To make it easier, 20 registration centers will be set up in Haridwar and Rishikesh, with 15 counters in Vikasnagar. Devotees can register online through the official Uttarakhand government website at registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in, starting from March 1, 2025.

About Char Dham Yatra 2025

  • Yamunotri Temple: Located in the Uttarkashi district, this temple is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. The temple was built by Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal and is located at the source of the Yamuna River. Pilgrims need to walk 6 kilometers from Janki Chatti to reach the temple.
  • Gangotri Temple: Situated at an altitude of about 3,048 meters, this temple is dedicated to the sacred River Ganga. It is one of the highest temples devoted to Goddess Ganga and is surrounded by stunning Himalayan views.
  • Kedarnath Temple: Set at 3,584 meters, Kedarnath Temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. The temple is surrounded by beautiful Himalayan peaks and is considered one of the holiest places in Hinduism. According to mythology, the Pandavas built the temple, and Adi Shankaracharya later renovated it.
  • Badrinath Temple: This temple, located in the town of Badrinath, is dedicated to Lord Badrinarayan, a form of Lord Vishnu. The temple houses a 3.3-foot-tall black stone idol from the Vedic era. While the temple has been renovated many times since the ninth century, its inner sanctum remains unchanged, making it a unique spiritual site.

Preparation for the Yatra

The Char Dham Yatra is a spiritually enriching journey but requires careful planning due to the high altitudes and tough terrains. Pilgrims should register early, plan their travel routes, and ensure they have the right equipment and health checkups before starting their trek.
