A CJM court let off a man after 26 years in a ‘theft case’ in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra. The man was acquitted after the court found a lack of evidence and witnesses.
According to The Times Of India’s report, Saleem Rajput was arrested by cops on July 25, 1999, in Muzaffarnagar when he was returning home from work. He was put behind bars over charges of “stealing property.” He spent two months in prison. He was released on bail later.
After attending more than 200 hearings in the last 26 years, he finally got a reprieve after the court let him off on February 4, 2025.
Saleem (50) said all his savings were exhausted fighting the case, and he sees no reason to celebrate. He said his children did not get an education, and his maximum life was spent in court instead of earnings. He said his family suffered for more than two decades because of the case in which he was falsely implicated. Saleem has four children.
He said there is ‘nothing to cheer’ as his life is ‘ruined’.
