New Delhi: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh Thursday spoke over the video showed two women being stripped naked and paraded in a field during the ethnic violence in the state and said “he felt bad.”

“We saw the video and I felt so bad, it’s a crime against humanity. I immediately ordered the police to arrest the culprits and the state government will try to ensure capital punishment for the accused. Every human being should condemn it,” said the Chief Minister N Biren Singh.

Manipur Women Video Surfaces, CJI Chandrachud Intervenes 

This comes after the nation’s head hanged with the shame after the video of sexual violence emerged from Manipur that is reported to be 3 months old. Following its circulation on the internet, the entire nation’s outrage prompted India’s judiciary to intervene.

Taking note of the Manipur women video, Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud condemned it while also saying that it is the grossest constitutional violation. He said, “it is uacceptable.”

“We are very deeply disturbed about the videos distributed yesterday. We are expressing our deep concern. It is time that the government steps and takes action. This is unacceptable,” said CJI, quoted LiveLaw.

With this, the CJI also expressed remarked “We will give a little time for government to take action otherwise we will step in.”

The Supreme Court Thursday ordered the Centre and state government to take immediate action against the incident in Manipur where two women were stripped and paraded.

Highlighting gross violation of constitution, CJI Chandrachud said, “We are of the view that court must be apprised of the steps taken by the govt so that perpetrators are booked for such violence. What is portrayed in the media and visuals which appeared shows gross constitutional violation.”
