Delhi-Meerut Expressway Chokes Again: VVIP Movement Triggers Massive Traffic Chaos

Due to frequent congestion, commuters wrote their frustration on social media platforms.

Traffic on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway (DME) and several parts of Delhi and South Delhi was crawled on Tuesday due to restrictions that were imposed to face New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon’s visit.

The DME faced congestion more than three times in a fortnight. Recently the expressway was jam-packed when a family from Ghazipur, Delhi, staged a protest following a murder case. Due to frequent congestion, commuters wrote their frustration on social media platforms.

“Huge traffic jam on NH-3 from Ghaziabad to Delhi. It has become a regular affair now; either in the morning or in the evening during peak hours, the road gets blocked, and for a journey of 30 min, 2 hours get wasted,” a commuter posted on X. Another wrote, “Massive traffic jam in Delhi Meerut Expressway apparently because of some VVIP movement.”

Another user said, “Traffic at Ring Road, Swarn Jayanti Park, opposite Sarai Kale Khan Railway Station has been blocked by traffic police for the last one hour without any advisory. Why? Creating inconvenience to commuters.”

There was no previous traffic advisory on social media. Numerous folks had been trapped in traffic for a long time and were looking for other routes. Many people were forced to take another route, do U-turns, or even park their cars and walk considerable distances.

Other portions, including those near Akshardham and IIT, experienced a similar predicament because the New Zealand Prime Minister was planned to visit these areas. The barricading caused havoc since commuters were taken by surprise. A senior traffic officer, commenting on the condition of anonymity, stated such advice cannot be given for safety and logistics concerns.
