Delhi-NCR Faces Heavy Rain, Waterlogging Reported Near Parliament

The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for the Delhi-NCR region following heavy rainfall that hit the city on Wednesday evening. The unexpected downpour led to waterlogging in several areas, disrupting traffic and making it difficult for pedestrians to move around.

According to the latest forecast, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, and Ghaziabad in the next few hours as “clouds have converged over Delhi from all directions.” Winds are anticipated to reach speeds of 30-50 km/h. The red alert remains in effect until 9 pm. Waterlogging was even observed in front of the New Parliament’s Makar Dwar.

In addition to Delhi-NCR, nearby regions such as Panipat, Bhiwani, Jhajjar, Jind, Hisar, Karnal, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Nuh, Rewari, Alwar, Narnaul, Palwal, Hodal, Hathin, Aligarh, Bulandshahr, and Mathura are also expected to experience rainfall.

Heavy rain hits Delhi

Heavy rainfall has led to waterlogging across many parts of the Delhi-NCR area, disrupting traffic on several roads. Overflowing stormwater drains have been observed in various locations, with water spilling onto the streets.

Social media visuals reveal significant waterlogging in Rajendra Nagar, the same area where three IAS aspirants tragically drowned in basement flooding three days ago during the recent rains.

Other affected areas include RK Puram, Janpath, Parliament Street, Karol Bagh, Nauroji Nagar, Pant Marg, Mayur Vihar, and several other locations.

In Gurugram, water accumulated on major roads including Subhash Nagar and Old Railway Road, along with other areas. The weather department has forecasted that the rainy conditions are expected to persist until August 5.
