Ganga Expressway: Airstrip Ready On 596-km Route; Fighter Jets To Land Even At Night

The Ganga Expressway will start from Bijauli village on Meerut-Bulandshahr (NH 334), while it will terminate near Judapur Dadu village on NH 19 in Prayagraj.

Uttar Pradesh leads the way in expressway development, with advanced expressways being constructed to connect regions of the state. Some of the routes are uniquely designed to accommodate not just vehicles but also aircraft landings. Previously, the Agra-Lucknow expressway was developed with this capability, where fighter jets like Jaguar, Sukhoi, and Mirage have demonstrated their powers.

An airstrip has been constructed as part of Uttar Pradesh’s longest expressway project. The length of the Ganga Expressway is 596 km. However, the expressway is not yet open to the public.

Key Features And Route Details

This expressway will boost connectivity in the state. This route will connect Meerut and Prayagraj, with plans to further extend it to Dehradun and Mirzapur. Once operational, it will cut travel time to 8 hours for people travelling from Merut to Prayagraj. Designed for speeds of up to 120 km/h, the expressway will feature toll plazas along the route, including 12 ramp toll plazas to collect tolls from vehicles entering at intermediate points.

The Ganga Expressway will start from Bijauli village on Meerut-Bulandshahr (NH 334), while it will terminate near Judapur Dadu village on NH 19 in Prayagraj. The planned route of the Ganga Expressway starts in Meerut before continuing to Prayagraj through Hapur and Bulandshahr after passing Amroha and Sambhal, before reaching Badaun, before traveling to Shahjahanpur to visit Hardoi on its way to Unnao, then Rae Bareli and Pratapgarh.

Airstrip For Emergency Landings Near Shahjahanpur

The airstrip built near Shahjahanpur along the Ganga Expressway serves as a landing zone for helicopter and plane operations when emergency situation occur. The total expense for this project is Rs 36,000 crore. Media reports indicate that Ganga Expressway construction will be finalized at a faster pace.

The statements indicated that the expressway would remain operational through Maha Kumbh however, these expectations turned out to be incorrect. UPDA and construction agencies have received formal orders to finish the Ganga Expressway construction without delay while ensuring superior quality of work.

UP CM’s Aerial Survey

The Ganga Expressway, being built by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), will connect the western and eastern parts of the state. Recently, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath conducted an aerial survey of the 3.5 km long airstrip.

Once the expressway is open to the public, it will solve traffic-related issues and make the journey smoother for the commuters.
