Good News! While announcing the annual budget for FY 2025-26 on Thursday, Finance Minister Suresh Khanna said that the Uttar Pradesh Government is planning to construct four new expressways. This mega expansion plan aims to strengthen the state’s Defense Industrial Corridor Project in addition to the Bundelkhand Expressway.
At present, UP reportedly has a total of five operational expressway which spans around 1,194 km and another 594-km-long under-construction stretch – The Ganga Expressway. Providing details about the incident, Khanna informed that the Government has proposed to spend Rs 900 crore for an access-restricted expressway linking Ganga Expressway in Hardoi district to the Agra-Lucknow Expressway via Farrukhabad.
Notably, three regional districts are going to be benefitted by the new project – Prayagraj, Haridwar and Varanasi. According to reports, the construction work has been assigned to the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA).
Details On Allocation Of Budget
Varanasi division (Eastern UP): Vindhya Expressway allocated a budget of Rs 50 crore. This expressway will connect the Ganga Expressway to Sonbhadra via four districts – Prayagraj Chandauli, Mirzapur, and Varanasi
Haridwar division: For the extension of the Ganga Expressway which would link Meerut to Haridwar, Rs 50 crore will reportedly be spent.
Bundelkhand region: Bundelkhand-Rewa Expressway is allocated a budget of Rs 50 crore.
For the Defence Industrial Corridor Project along the route of Bundelkhand Expressway, a budget of Rs 461 crore has been proposed. Meanwhile, the Yogi Adityanath-led Govt also aims to draw a capital of Rs 9,500 crore in the Defence Corridor.
